The Ladainha at SJBHS on 3 October 2026 was a beautiful evening of faith, music, tradition and community. We began at 6:00 p.m. with the Rosary, prayed in both English and Konkani. The community gathered in prayer, creating a beautiful harmony of languages and devotion.
The grotto looked almost surreal in the warm glow of the setting sun as we gathered to celebrate the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The KGA choir members led the congregation through the Litany in Latin, accompanied by traditional Konkani hymns that filled the space with a profound sense of reverence, warmth and togetherness.
A celebration like this becomes even more special because of the many people who contribute in their own unique ways. A heartfelt thank you to Sheila Browne for taking charge of the Ladainha and ensuring that every little detail was thoughtfully taken care of. The sumptuous snacks were lovingly prepared by Marleen Da Costa, while Gavin Santiago generously sponsored the delicious chicken sandwiches. Wilma Pereira added to the spread with her wonderful boiled channa with coconut, bringing an unmistakable taste of home to the evening.
For those who do not speak Konkani fluently or often, the Ladainha was also an opportunity to reconnect with the language through prayer and song. It was truly heartwarming to see such a wonderful turnout of KGA members this year. There was a palpable sense of peace and calm as we came together to pray for our personal intentions as well as those of our community.
Seeing the children participate in the prayers made the celebration of Our Lady even more meaningful. Their presence was a beautiful reminder that traditions such as these have the power to connect generations. In the years to come, it would be wonderful to see even more members sharing their musical talents and becoming part of the KGA choir, helping to keep these cherished traditions alive.
As I wrap up, I feel deeply grateful for the wonderful moments of prayer, the beautiful music and, most importantly, the people who came together to make the evening so memorable. I look forward to joining my fellow association members again next year as we come together to sing praises to Our Lady at the Ladainha.
I sincerely hope that our traditions continue to flourish and live on for generations to come!
